Monaco GP 2008

With a whirl wind trip to Den Haag (Netherlands) to spend a day with Elaine (who was on a layover for work) thrown in on the way home.

Rob and I have been talking about seeing the Monaco Gran Prix for years.  We both enjoy Formula 1 racing, and what's not to love about the Riviera.  In addition, Rob has a family friend who graciously offered us the use of his "Villa" (in the true sense of the word) near Monaco.  Hearing that the family friend was thinking about selling the vacation property gave us the incentive to make the trip happen sooner rather than later.

Xavier was able join us for the weekend (making the 4 hour drive down from his home in Lyon), giving us the invaluable resource of his 'local knowledge' as well as his fantastic company.  Our time spent in the south of France revolved around seeing the Gran Prix by day (practice, qualifying and the race) followed by relaxing on the terrace of the "Villa" and enjoying the world class view of Antibes by night.  We ate like pigs and enjoyed each other's lively conversation over the five day weekend.

Getting from the south of France to Amsterdam (to meet up with Elaine) on a standby KLM flight was a bit of a challenge, but well worth the effort!  (Thank you again Xavier for waking up before the crack of dawn and driving me to the airport).  Elaine and I had an excellent day riding bikes around Den Haag and enjoying each others company over an uninterrupted two hour dinner (a rarity at home).  The following morning I was able to take the flight home that Elaine was working, making a prefect end to a great trip!
