Nepal trip
October/November 2005

The story behind the trip. As a part of my dad's 60th birthday present (click here to see the other part of the present), I gave him a trip anywhere he wanted to go in the world with me and my sister. After careful consideration he chose the Everest region of Nepal! Actually I just paid for the "tour", my dad cashed in his airline miles to get me, my sister and himself over to Nepal - so it is questionable as to who took whom on the trip. I would again like to thank Elaine, my mom, Carol, Maribeth and Margaret for watching Sierra and Cooper during my month long absence. Click here to view our itinerary (Adobe Acrobat document - 216kb .pdf file ). Although I'm not one to go on guided tours, my dad had requested that we use guides as a part of this trip. My dad's insistence turned out to be a great fortune as Naresh (of Aasahi Nepal Journey (P) Ltd.), Pemba (of Himalayan Sherpa Nepal) and Dawa made the Nepali culture come to life in ways we would have not understood without their thoughtful (and patient) explanations. Inviting us into their homes, meeting their families, and listening to their cultural insights made the difference between merely visiting a place and experiencing a different culture. One of these days I may include my trip log as a part of this page, but I'm not inclined to do so right now. Suffice to say that we all had a great time visiting with Naresh and Pemba as well as the temples in Kathmandu, Trekking for 22 days with Dawa, Nawang and Frua, and seeing the temples in Ayuthaya Thailand. |
